Looe Shedders has grown rapidly since our first meeting in 2021.
With 61 members and strong community support, we now need a purpose-designed workshop and community space that will transform what we can offer.
Then, for the first time, we will have a stable base where people can meet, learn, create, repair, and support one another in a safe and welcoming environment.
Why We Need a Permanent Home
We currently operate from borrowed spaces, temporary storage units, and a short-term garage loan.
This limits:
The number of people we can support
The projects we can take on
The tools and equipment we can safely store
Our ability to run structured training and wellbeing activities
A permanent home will allow us to expand our impact and support more people in Looe who are experiencing loneliness, isolation, or loss of purpose. Or those who just want to learn some new skills with some new friends.
What are we looking for?
We were fortunate to have been offered a potential site for our new home. However, its future availability is now uncertain and we may not know the outcome until February.
As we must leave our current workshop by Easter, we simply cannot afford to wait before actively pursuing other options.
Ideally, we are looking for a piece of land on which we can build a permanent workshop, or a large existing building that we can convert.
Think:
Garage • Shed • Barn • Workshop • Agricultural Building • Another suitable structure
Ideally, it would provide:
At least 50 sq m of usable space
A location within 5 miles of Looe
Vehicle access
Long-term availability at a peppercorn rent
Electricity
Water
Drainage/sewage facilities
But we know we may have to compromise
Time is now a major factor.
We don't just have to find somewhere, we also need enough time to prepare the site, build a workshop, convert an existing structure, or create temporary storage and then move our tools and equipment before we have to leave our present home.
So, while the list above describes our ideal solution, please don't assume that your land or building isn't suitable just because it doesn't meet every requirement. We are prepared to be flexible.
A smaller building, fewer facilities, a site requiring work, or even a temporary solution could give us the breathing space we desperately need.
What is the minimum we could work with?
At the very least, we need:
Enough accessible and secure land for at least one shipping container in which we can store our tools and equipment, together with the possibility of expanding or developing the site later.
That could provide us with an essential first step while we work towards establishing a proper workshop.
The Looe Shed Appeal
SO PLEASE TALK TO US
If you have land or a building anywhere around Looe, please don't rule it out because it isn't perfect.
We may be able to find a solution that works for both of us.
A field corner, unused yard, outbuilding, old workshop, barn, garage or other space that you hadn't considered could potentially secure the future of Looe Shedders.
IF YOU THINK YOU MIGHT HAVE SOMETHING — PLEASE GET IN TOUCH.
We would much rather have a conversation and discover it isn't suitable than miss an opportunity that could become our new home.
