In Search of a New Home
About us
Established four years ago, Looe Shedders is a vibrant community group tackling loneliness and isolation. We provide a friendly, inclusive space
where people can connect, learn new skills, and rediscover a sense of purpose.
From crafting and DIY to meaningful community projects, our members have supported schools, care homes, and local events across Looe.
Environmental sustainability is central to our ethos. We prioritise the use of recycled materials and our Repair Café helps extend the life of everyday
items that might otherwise be thrown away.

Why we need a permanent home
It’s not always easy finding space to do good work. After a break-in last year where we lost many of our key tools, we were grateful to raise over
£2,000 for new equipment and to improve security. Since then, we’ve been operating from a generously loaned garage space, available only until
mid-2026.
This temporary location has allowed us to continue work on long-standing community projects, but it simply isn’t a long-term solution.
We’ve completed twelve community projects to date, which include a playground tractor for Trenode Primary School and a raised flower bed
and potting shed for the Kernow Health Mental Wellbeing Project.
Several more are in the pipeline, but without a secure and permanent base our community projects work will grind to a halt and we will have to turn
away future opportunities to help.
A dedicated workshop would allow us to:
•
Expand our hours and welcome more members.
•
Increase our efforts to reduce social isolation in the community.
•
Build more essential items for schools, clubs, churches, and individuals in need.
•
Store materials safely and securely.
•
Set up a Young Shedders programme to teach practical skills to local young people.
•
Use our larger tools that are currently mothballed due to space restrictions.
What we are looking for
We’re open to a variety of options, preferably within 3 miles of Looe.
Option 1 – Build our own workshop
We have plans for a purpose-built shed (14m x 8m), if land should become available.
Option 2 – Renovate an existing building
If we can find the right space, we’d be happy to adapt it to suit our needs—with the support of suitable grants and a long-term lease.
Option 3 – Shared space with another group or business
We’re open to partnerships that benefit both parties—whether that’s sharing space, skills, or maintenance efforts.
Option 4 – Field barn conversion
A field barn could be converted or fitted with a site hut to provide a functional base with fewer planning challenges.
The benefits of partnering with us
Our members have a wide range of skills and a deep commitment to community service. We’ve already helped with maintenance at St Martin’s
Community Hall, and we’re keen to explore other collaborative opportunities.
In return, our partners enjoy positive community PR, potential customer engagement, and the chance to support something truly meaningful. We
also see exciting opportunities for staging crafting workshops that draw in locals and tourists alike.
Let’s talk
If you think you might be able to help, or know someone who could, we’d love to talk. I’d be happy to arrange a meeting at your convenience.
Let’s explore how this project might dovetail with your goals and facilities.
Together, we can create something special for Looe.
